Born in a remote village of Kanku, East Nepal, Hon. Capt. Bhuwan Sing Rai was enlisted in the 1/10th Gurkha Rifles on 04.11.1912. During 1st World War his battalion was posted in the Western Frontier of India for his conspicuous gallantry during the war he was awarded I.O.M 2nd class and the “Jangi – Inam” of Rs.60/-P.A in 1934.
